Discount retailer The Bargain Warehouse to open new store in Rainham Shopping Centre

Bargain Warehouse - Rainham

A large empty unit in Rainham Shopping Centre is set to reopen as a discount variety store.

The Bargain Warehouse, which specialises in products that have passed their best-before date, is moving into the former Jhoots pharmacy.

Work to refurbish the 8,000 sq ft unit is well underway, as the discount retailer hopes to open the branch in July.

Independently run by a Kent family, the retailer launched five years ago and now has two stores in the county in Ashford and Faversham.

Shoppers will be able to find a range of bulk-buy food items, cleaning products and household essentials.

The shelves are refreshed with new stock weekly, which is just passed their best before but always within the use-by expiry.

Whilst an exact opening date has not yet been revealed, a spokeswoman for the retailer confirmed the grand opening will take place on a Saturday in early to mid-July.

A total of 12 jobs are being created as part of the store investment.

The firm hopes to open a further eight branches within the “next few years,” the spokeswoman added.

The Rainham store will be open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

The unit became vacant after Jhoots relocated to another unit within the shopping centre in 2024, and was then put up for rent for £75,000 a year.
